Report: Sage Steele, Kevin Negandhi to anchor ESPN's revamped 'SportsCenter'
ESPN has chosen the new anchors for its flagship SportsCenter broadcast at 6 p.m. ET.
Sage Steele and Kevin Negandhi will take over the time slot previously occupied by Jemele Hill and Michael Smith, according to The Athletic.
ESPN has not made an official announcement and an ESPN spokesperson declined to comment when reached by USA TODAY Sports on Wednesday.
The New York Post reports Steele and Negandhi will begin their new duties Monday.
The new SportsCenter will not be called SC6 anymore, as it was with Jemele Hill and Michael Smith. It will just be the 6 p.m. SportsCenter. Steele and Negandi are expected to start on Monday.
Hill was suspended by ESPN for two weeks in October after a second violation of the company's social media policy. The first instance involved a Sept. 11 tweet that called President Trump a "white supremacist who has largely surrounded himself w/ other white supremacists."
The suspension came a month later in response to a tweet about Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones saying he would bench any player who knelt during the national anthem.
Many of Hill's colleagues came to her defense. Steele, however, took the opposite approach, saying in a Refinery29.com profile that Hill opened herself up to criticism when she posted her tweets.
"It's not a lack of supporting Jemele," Steele said, "it's simply, I just try to abide by the rules."
Steele is no stranger to controversy on social media, having been criticized for posts about Buccaneers receiver Mike Evans sitting during the national anthem and travel ban protests at Los Angeles International Airport.
Steele joined ESPN in 2007, serving most recently as a morning SportsCenter host and an anchor on NBA Countdown. Negandhi has been with the network since 2006 and has been among several anchors to work on the 6 p.m. SportsCenter following Smith's departure.
