I maintain that if TGSNT got released when it was supposed to Saigon would’ve been a star

He was a great mixture of Nas, Jay and 50 all rolled into one. Hella talented.

It's good that Saigon didn't budge and give into Atlantic Records...

They would have did him like T.I, Plies, and Lupe Fiasco.

Saigon made the type of records that red alert wouldn't be playing.

Those cacs wanted him to work with Yung Joc

Saigon from Warning Shots to TGSNT was so fukking fire
FACTS!!

Even though there are still “conscious rappers” today

How Atlantic purposely SABOTAGED Saigon’s career making him switch his style during the snap era really felt like the murder of the “conscious street rapper” as a template.

Nobody could tell me Saigon wasn’t gonna be a guaranteed STAR after Warning Shots, Yardfather and getting the Hov feature over a Just Blaze beat that was FIRE.

His style was like Hov, Nas w/ a sprinkle of 50 in one.

Damn near everything he dropped was FIRE.

I go back to his tapes back then in disgust at how Atlantic just fumbled a special talent like THAT who had everybody that mattered in his corner to succeed.

And made him play stupid for cookie cutter jingles SMH.

We can romanticise the past.

Saigon was okay, but he was confused if he wanted to be a thug emcee, a Talib Kweli, or a Joe Budden/Kid Cudi. Ofcourse labels and the market decline dictated much of his fate, nobody is going to argue otherwise. But he wasn't doing anybody any favours by playing all three cards at an average level.

His main issue was that he wasn't a star in any manner, the label knew this, they tried, but he would have been better as an independent aka take the Cormega approach.
