i worked in retail management a few years ago. assistant managers at zumiez, tillys, and forever 21 were starting off around $13-$15 an hour. Store managers $16-$20 an hour.

I'm trying to convert this to £, that's not generous at all. Considering you also have to pay for your own health care and considering also that uni (college for you guys) doesn't have the same "easy going" government sponsored loan.

First off, semantics. If she gets paid $80k then she makes way more than that. That $80k would represent her cut of what she actually made for the company. Common misunderstanding in capitalism. You always make more than you're paid, otherwise why would an employer hire you?
Now to answer your question, my man used to manage a subsidiary of Finish Line and earned about $45k. So $80k for an assistant seems quite absurd.

She may not be lying does she work a lot of hours? My wife actually makes more than me when/if she works a bunch of overtime/holidays as an LVN but if she just works regular hours she doesn't...so your sis may be getting time extra.
