Salt Lake is gonna lose this poll on here, because this is a black site but I'm interested in hearing from people who've done both still...
100% no question, I'm taking Salt Lake over Vegas with no hesitation. Specifically I'm speaking as a tourist because I've never lived in either, so those of you who've lived in one or the other rightfully likely have a stronger frame of reference...
I don't know that I'd enjoy living in Salt Lake. I'm pretty pro-black and I'm more comfortable around us than anyone else, so I suspect, that I'd like Salt Lake but the void of a large black population would wear me out sooner than later, and I'd be on to somewhere else. But I'd be willing to give living in SLC a try if I had everything line up for me perfectly and it's now made my "places to retire to" and "places to vacation to" lists, whereas Vegas isn't anywhere on either...
For the record, Salt Lake is around 2.7% black compared to Vegas' 12.3%...
For me, I've mentioned befire you certainly notice there aren't a ton of black folk in SLC but to the extent we are there, we are a lot more visible than you'd expect. You see us represented downtown, as if we are two or three times deeper there than we actually are...
That tells me that most blacks in SLC aren't impoverished, we are active in the larger function of the city to the best we can be...
SLC is a freaking gorgeous city. I'm waiting to find the US city that is more beautiful, and I mean it's a stunningly beautiful city. The backdrop of the mountains, the architecture, the neighborhoods, the air, it's a wildly colorful city. It's hard to aptly describe the beauty if you haven't seen it in person...
The people just seem more pleasant too. Ton of white people for sure, and again I've lived in white settings, I know the problems that comes from living with them in such large number. From a tourist perspective they seemed fine. Decent number of Latinos and Asians and Polynesians. But definitely a sea of white more than anything. Women not top tier as a collective but you see a good amount of fine women, and the sisters you do see are fine...
SLC is also a large enough city, it doesn't feel tiny. Not quite a "major" city, but it has a dope restaurant scene, plenty of arts and festivals, and muhfukkas are always outside. Plenty of parks and entertainment...
In contrast Vegas is bland and ugly as shyt. Both cities have a ton of homeless people, but Vegas has an overepresentation of black homeless relative to its population, its depressing. Many of us are definitely impoverished in Vegas, that's never good to see...
Vegas was built from nothing in the middle of an ugly desert, and thet keep adding more shyt, it's in the middle of nowhere. No scenery, no rain or water, wack ass architecture. Heavy on entertainment because clearly it's a major tourist draw, but that's the thing, unless you absolutely need to have casinos in your every day life, everything here you can find elsewhere. The quality of life doesn't appear great enough to put Vegas above most other large cities...
Vegas has kind of a tacky demeanor too, like it was never supposed to get this big. It was supposed to be this small town Atlantic City of The West and it's just outgrown that, and you can tell because Vegas still has all these seedy motels and small town feels. It feels modern in some ways, and throwback in others...
It's definitely more diverse than Salt Lake, I like that. And again, in a vacuum I like the idea of living around more of us than not, there's clearly more of us in Vegas...
Anyone who has been to both here? Or lived in both? What's your take? I just don't get the Vegas hype, it's really not that great of a city to me. You'd have to pay me out the ass to come live here, real rap!

(which actually leave the streets too icey to the point where you might can't drive safely until the sweepers come if you live in the high avenues, and then it all gets muddy when it melts so you car is ruined with slush salt, etc)
