Could've sworn that Herbie said once the time is up, he would own the catalogue since he wrote and produced everything.

But Salt & Pepa have bad karma though. They tried to jerk Spinderella when UMG wrote the last check to them. They claimed Spin "wasn't really in the group" and wasn't "qualified" for a share. Now look at them, lol. Love them both, but they're crooks.

Yea he wrote and produced damn near all of their singles. They were basically a puppet group. I’m sure he owns the rights and not them

That was only the first and second albums IIRC. They started writing their own stuff later. Even so, I would assume they are entitled to a piece as the performers unless their contract was trash, in which case they can sue/shame Hurby.

It's the first three albums, he said.

So the hit joints like "Let's Talk About Sex" and "Do You Want Me" on the third album. He said he wrote and produced those for other artists, but then gave them to S&P. After that album, Freddie Foxx was writing for them. He wrote "Shoop" with Herby, but they tried to not credit him for it. So they have a lot of songs they didn't even write, that they tried to credit themselves for. So they ain't getting no masters, lol. They need to pay for the writers and producers first.

But that whole ship was Herby's. At least 95% of the hits.
