And we also enslaved jewish habeshas and other afroasiatics like the oromos. In fact jews and oromos made up most of the slave population. My statement had nothing to do with the women.
I know darker-skinned Ethiopians are ostracized from society and are called Bariya(slave).
And its a dark legacy of our people. No ones perfect. And barriya isnt used against dark skinned people but nilotic people as the habeshas had dark skinned kings such as menelik. Ill explain.
When the Habeshas converted into christianity a few thoudand years ago, they created rules to regulate the slave trade.
The only people who were enslaved were jews, pagans and captured soldiers. Because the Habeshas were the only christians in Ethiopia/Eritrea, and most pagans were nilotics, barriya later typified nilotic people. Later they would enslave the falasha jews and pagan oromos who were afroasiatic. Today they are still called shanquello and bariya because of this legacy of slavery. Its not a racial slur but an ethnic slur against nilotics of Ethiopia. Every culture has a dark past. Im not going to pretend we had a rosy history. Most ethnic groups in Ethiopia and in fact Africa have blood on their hands. Pan africanism is a recent phenomena.
