You're over thinking it by looking at both words separately. It's not "same" and "difference". It's "same difference". Two things that have the same differences are the same.

I'm getting confused. The way I use it, would be in a situation where lets say I completely mispronounced someones name and then someone corrected me I would respond with "same difference :yeshrug:". I always thought it was some sort of colloquialism.

Eh....that's being a smart ass but it's not really the correct usage of it. :heh:

It's meant to be used when two things are the same, or the differences are so small as to be inconsequential. If I say Endris Elbow and you say "nah man, it's Irdis Elba" and I say "same difference"....that's not the same thing at all. That's how a lot of people use it though, humorously.
