Just noticed this ad from Best Buy, if anybody is on the fence for a 4K UHD Blu-ray player and is not gaming, this price is very good and the unit is pretty solid. I have 2 of these and yet to have any issues so far, picture quality is great. Curved design, touch sensitive buttons, clean front, and 2 HDMI output ports...........

I'd love to see sales figures on DVDs, Bluerays and UHD Bleuerays.

Physical media has been on a slow decline for years.

Physical media has been on a slow decline for years.

How to Gauge UHD Blu-ray's Success So Far

"According to the Digital Entertainment Group (DEG), total consumer spending on home entertainment content--including DVD, Blu-ray, and UHD Blu-ray title rentals and sales, as well as digital rentals and sales of that content--grew six percent to more than $4.3 billion in the second quarter that ended June 30, compared with the second quarter of 2015. That boosted year-to-date home entertainment content spending to $8.9 billion, a two percent increase from the first half of 2015."

"Home Media Magazine separately reported that 228,000 UHD Blu-ray discs had been sold as of June 24, 2016. What really stands out about that figure, according to Victor Matsuda, chair of the Blu-ray Disc Association (BDA), is that it's significantly higher than the 57,000 Blu-ray discs that were sold in a comparable time frame after the original format was introduced in 2006.

Thanks for this.

- Digital sales continue to grow
- The physical media industry is still making billions, so physical isn't going anywhere anytime soon
- There are roughly ~50 UHD titles at this point in time.
- Less than a million UHD players in homes
- UHD blu-ray is doing much better than it's relative blu-ray at this juncture of it's introduction
- Sales are promising but not enough to convince most major studios to jump on the bandwagon. If Disney isn't on board you should definitely be concerned.
- Sales are reflective of the "shiny new toy" theory.
- Everyone (retailers, movie studios, etc.) are playing wait and see since current numbers aren't indicative of much.
- What's going to happen to the format when 4K streaming content doubles in volume and there is 4K broadcasted content in the US?

Not worth it at all.

Hell, buy the Xbox one s for $300 and just sell the pack-in game if you are not interested at all in gaming.

This is definitely a concerning factor, especially considering how large Disney's (w/Marvel) movie catalog is. I am hoping that changes 1st quarter on 2017. One of the major issues I have with 4K UHD right now is selection of movies, especially when there is titles that haven't made it standard blu-ray. I bought into the format for the technology, I'm with it if it sinks or swims.
