Sandy Koufax has to be the most overrated baseball player ever.

North Jersey but I miss Cali :sadcam:
:mjpls: he gets celebrated like he's a god, when in reality, his numbers were propped up by rules changes and performance enhancing drugs.

He only played 12 seasons but its the final 6 that got him into the hall of fame. 6 SEASONS got him into the Hall of Fame... :mjpls: let that sink in. So I'm going to break down the real reason for his success

season 7 - This was his breakout seasons, and his stats were basically on par for what would be considered an all star in todays era.

season 8 - Dodgers move into a pitcher friendly stadium and balls that would've left the park are routine fly balls which in turn drastically improved his ERA.

season 9 - This was the first year MLB expanded the strike zone. His numbers drastically improved all the way across. The correlation is obvious.

season 10 - He fukks his arm up. Doesn't play a full season.

season 11 - 12 Despite playing with arthritis he proceeds to throw over 300 + innings each season. he was shooting up all types of drugs just to pitch. Steroids are commonly used to treat arthritis. :mjpls:

So Koufax career changed when Dodgers moved into a pitcher friendly park, MLB expanded the strike zone and drugs/steroids.

he lead the league in ERA 5 years straight and had a 0.95 ERA in the playoffs :mjlol:

And 4 of those years, he won 4 CY Young awards and 4 MVP's. All with a fukked up arthritic arm, shooting up cortisone, and steroids the whole time. :usure:. All while playing in a pitchers ball park and expanded strike zone. And check the ERA of the other starters during that run :mjpls: In fact, check the TEAM ERA, in each of those seasons.

He was a beast and had one of the best peaks ever but he had a short career and the first half of it was incredibly average. His teammate Don Drysdale had a similar length career but has almost 20 more WAR than him.

This is ridiculous.

While Dodger stadium was (and remains) a pitchers park, Koufax was largely the same pitcher away from the ballpark. He had some ERA spikes on the road (though nothing that was severe enough to indicate he was bad). His peripherals like K/9 and BB/9 remained the same.

I would also add that most elite players only have a peak of about 5-6 years. In fact comparing peaks is one of the way we differentiate between players.

Very few are steady players for their entire careers. Hank Aaron comes to mind as one. But the list isn't very long.

Steve Carlton->>>>>Sandy Koufax.

Steve Carlton - Wikipedia

The way he speaks his mind you'd think he was posting on the coli.

"
Media charges of bigotry and anti-Semitism

In 1994 he agreed to an interview with writer Pat Jordan at his home in Durango, Colorado. The result was the story "Thin Mountain Air" in the April 1994 issue of Philadelphia magazine.[16] This article was noted by the New York Times as being the source of numerous claims about Steve Carlton's political and social beliefs: "According to Pat Jordan, the writer of the article, Carlton alternately said that the world is ruled or controlled by the Russian and United States Governments, which 'fill the air with low-frequency sound waves,' the Elders of Zion, British intelligence agencies, '12 Jewish bankers meeting in Switzerland' and 'a committee of 300 which meets at a roundtable in Rome.' Not only that, but Carlton also charges, according to Jordan, that President Clinton has 'a black son' he won't acknowledge and that the AIDS virus was created at a secret Maryland biological warfare laboratory to get rid of gays and blacks.'"

:picard:

Carlton was a great pitcher.
I'll leave it at that.

Doc Gooden should be in tbqh, guys who were worse than him are in :yeshrug: Lots of snubs in the baseball HoF, it's just as much about how much writers liked you as to how good you were as a player.
