In a speech at The Reagan Ranch Center in Santa Barbara, California, Friday sponsored by the Young America’s Foundation, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, a Second Amendment supporter, said she believed that Jesus would be a “proponent of open carry” policies.

“Jesus was a warrior, he was a fighter for justice,” Mrs. Palin said in her speech, while promoting her new book, “Sweet Freedom: A Devotional,” which examines Bible passages and how “people can learn from my mistakes.”

“My pet peeve about Christians is when they come across as holier than thou,” Mrs. Palin said.

Mrs. Palin, the 2008 vice presidential Republican candidate, stopped short of endorsing any of the 2016 hopefuls in her party, saying only that her candidate of choice “will be someone who hasn’t been part of the problem.”

The former governor and Fox News commentator also decried what she viewed as a current atmosphere on college campuses that does not accept diversity of viewpoint, particularly of a conservative bent.

“I think it’s very tragic what’s going on on our campuses today. They do not tolerate conservative views, and they take it out on the student,” she said.

Bible Gateway passage: Matthew 26 - New International Version

47 While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.” 49 Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!” and kissed him.

50 Jesus replied, “Do what you came for, friend.”d]">[d]

Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. 51 With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear.

52 “Put your sword back in its place,” Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. 53 Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

Luke 22:36

Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Ephesian 6:17

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:
