Trickett is transferring.

The Jameis era begins. :blessed:

From Warchant:

Thought I'd throw out a couple of quick observations. We will have a video breakdown and a Podcast posted on this tonight along with a column from Dot. But some quick reaction:

1. The Winston era begins. I think that's fairly clear by now and not something I need to explain. When the 'starter' entering spring decides to transfer, that's all you need to know. It basically guarantees that Jameis Winston will be the starting quarterback entering the fall. I still wouldn't expect Fisher to name a starter between Winston and Coker until we're in to fall camp, but there's little doubt which way the momentum is going. It's only logical for Fisher to eye the future of his program unless he were to feel Coker was a major upgrade, and as we saw in a snippet on Saturday, it doesn't seem as if Coker is that major upgrade to even make this a race.

2. For Trickett to make this decision, it's clear one of two things happened: 1) He was told by Fisher outright that he would not be FSU's starter or 2) he saw enough in practice to know what kind of uphill climb he had vs. Winston.

3. Play along for a second: Let's just say Trickett somehow won the starting job over Winston this fall -- could you imagine the type of pressure Trickett would carry on every snap, every throw, every decision, every quote? Everything would be dissected until Winston was the quarterback. So while it's much more likely that the tea leaves read that Trickett wouldn't be a factor, even Trickett's "best case scenario" doesn't sound all that enticing. I can't imagine that was a primary factor in Trickett's decision, but you wonder how much that played a role - the sort-of "no-win" situation he'd be in even with the starting job.

4.. The first options for Trickett as far as a transfer are USF and West Virginia. Let's just say the source couldn't be much closer to Trickett.

5.. Before you start speculating about a possible transfer for Jacob Coker, remember that with Trickett's decision, things have cleared up for him. He will enter the fall as the No. 2 QB at worst, and as we've seen in the past decade, it's rare for FSU to get through a season without the No. 2 QB seeing playing time (See: Trickett, Clint). My guess is that a transfer by Coker would be much more likely after the 2013 season than it would be this offseason depending on how the season shakes out.
