I was talking to my boy who is a major HS coach, who son is Pop Watson, about Sauce technique.
Peep this… Usually when the ball is in the air on a deep throw, a defensive back will pin the receiver along the sidelines with his back facing the receiver and try to jump up and tip the ball. Often times, they end up getting Mossed Because it’s difficult out jumping someone who is catching the ball chest forward when you are trying to catch it as a defensive back with your back face in the sideline. I noticed Sauce is different. Instead of keeping the receiver pinned on his back he will do a 180, not seeing the ball, and turn forward going chest to chest on the receiver then look for the ball again. Doing that stops him from losing speed.

And because he 6’3, He doesn’t even have to jump. All he does is keep his hands up and it’s a 50-50 ball between him and the receiver. Look at what he did on that Chase and Pickens deep throw
I mentioned that to my boy confirmed that that is the way they are training defensive backs now and it’s a new technique. I peeped it but I didn’t know that it’s being taught to these new dbs.
He’s also smart as fukk. He’s easily going to transition to safety later in his career.
