Film was filled with stereotypes too.
The ex girl Nicki was “bitter” over Sarah because she was sick of “white girls like her, coming in & stealing our men”, Derek was raised by his single grandmother because his own mother was a crackhead, his father was absent and his sister was a teen mother to a man who was “trying.”
The only person who was seemingly worthy of sympathy throughout the whole film was Sarah, who “was being bullied by the mean black kids for being white & finding love with a black man.”
She felt no way to rebuff her fathers efforts to get know her either- called him by his first name and everything.
