Anyone ever got one of these?? My moms got a certified letter in the mail the other day, claiming it's from the local police department.

shyt says

Dear (Mom name)
address:

The Auto Squad has received a hit and run complaint recently. To expedite the process, please call detective (detective name) at (number). Please do not hesitate to call to investigate this matter during the hours of 8AM-3PM. Please bring a copy of this letter when reporting to the Auto Squad.

THIS IS YOUR FINAL NOTICE

Detective Signature

I'm paraphrasing but yeah it's pretty much that in a nutshell. First of all, there's NO details on anything about this "matter" in the letter at all. No car, no license plate, no time/date of said event zero. The number from the address at the top of the letter is NOT the local PD number and to make it funny the number at the top left is the same detective's number which makes zero sense. There's no fukking "Auto Squad" at my local PD either.

not too long ago we got a bogus call from someone claiming that my brother committed bank fraud and to report to court or some other dumb shyt. Later that day my brother called and then they claimed he owed 50 bucks due the next day :laff: and that they were on the phone with his past job managers :dwillhuh:

My brother just hung up and ignored them.

My mom scared because my idiot cousin mentioned something about jail time and charges which is just completely jumping the shark.

I've been hearing about those scam calls going around out here lately. Claiming a relative is in trouble or in an accident. That's why I don't answer unknown numbers. Let them leave a voicemail if they really legit. :francis:

I use a app called Mr.Number. It just blocks rougue/fake calls all day. I get at least 3 calls a day from these numbers.
