school me on Vinyl and records

I stopped collecting cd's and now collecting vinyls. My parents had an old ass record player that I used but now that it's busted I want to invest in a dope setup. Tell me this, should I cop a cheap ass record player or spend on a quality one. Im an extreme novice when it comes to things all vinyls so help a brotha out trying to listen to music in it's most pure form. School me on a dope setup to buy including speakers.

I own a Technics sl 2000, a DJ Pre II from Art (real cheap) and its hooked into my mackie mixer, so i listen to it thru my KRK Rokit 8 monitors, i listen mostly old records, so its all good for me... i dont really know the needle in it, but its the same one as when i got it...
