BRISBANE, AUSTRALIA – Researchers in Australia are working on a possible cure for AIDS.
According to a report from ABC Australia, scientists have modified an HIV protein in order to prevent it from replicating.

“What we’ve actually done is taken a normal virus protein that the virus needs to grow, and we’ve changed this protein, so that instead of assisting the virus, it actually impedes virus replication and does it quite strongly,” Associate Professor David Harrich told ABC Australia.

Harrich told ABC Australia the modified protein cannot cure HIV but it has protected human cells from AIDS in the laboratory.
“This therapy is potentially a cure for AIDS,” he said. “So it’s not a cure for HIV infection, but it potentially could end the disease.

Research is a very stressful job. When you've completed your lifes work and goal so easily the pressure of having nothing to do can be overwhelming so you just take apart the jigsaw puzzle and let someone else have fun.

Any AIDS "cure" needs to be tested for like a decade plus before it's even thought of being released to the public.

This is why scientists need to maintain some sort of...I dunno, professional composure, when reporting on these things.

There's too much money in maintaining aids for a cure to come out. That would be like somebody inventing cold fusion. You think energy companies are gonna just say "yay! Now we don't have to charge people anymore since all the energy is free!!". Pharmaceutical companies are generating billions of dollars from aids cocktails and you think one Australian scientist is gonna stop that?
