I am assuming this is before McGrady broke down?

If that's the case, it's McGrady easy.

Its crazy how underrated pip is.... Its sad really. He CARRIED the bulls defensively. Shuts down stockton while being able to switch onto malone and still handle bussiness. Meanwhile offensively he can play point guard as well as take it to the cup with the best of em. Tmac had the better jumpshot of course but I'll take pip as the better overall offensive player. Way higher iq offensively than tmac. Look at his impact even after he lost his athletecism when he was on the blazers. Way more impact than tmac post prime...

As far as scoring goes,Mcgrady edged him out, but in all other catagories Pippen>.

Just 'edges him out' huh? Like one poster before said .. Tmac's advantage in offensive performance is greater than Pip's defensive advantage.

Scottie Pippen all day......20 ppg scorer and all-time great defender > 25 ppg scorer and average defender.

Mcgrady is in the same category as Carmelo,Carter,Arenas,etc...great scorers that were average defenders.

Pippen is in the mold of G.Payton,K.Leonard,etc...A player who can drop 20-25 and shut you down...Unless you're an all-time transcendent offensive player like a S.Curry, players like Pippen,Payton, and Leonard have a greater impact on the overall game.

Jesus Christ.

Backpicks did an interesting series using both scouting style analysis and statistical impact to determine who they thought had the 40 best careers in NBA history. Pip came in at 23. Not that it matters since it isn't career vs. career, but I still learned some things about Pip & think it's worth skimming through:yeshrug:

Careers:
Mcgrady-19.6/43%/34%/74%

Carter-17.7/43%/37%/80%

Carmelo-24.1/45%/35%/81%

Arena-22.7/42%/35%/80%

Tmac being a great scorer isn't the debate here. Everyone know that he is. The average defender part. If you're comparing his defense to Gilbert, Vince and Carmelo's, then TMac was ELITE defensively.
