this 9-0 decision's likely going to be the only good one coming from them today. doctors haven't been prescribing opiates because of the chilling effect from the government, and chronic pain patients have been turning to heroin/fentanyl for pain relief. a lot of lives are going to be saved because of this, it's just too bad that we can't bring back the ones who died from overdoses/tainted drugs because the government used force to intervene in doctor-patient relationships.
mens rea/malice is also an important part of criminal law, for example it's the difference between manslaugter and murder. in this case, the government wanted to shyt all over this long standing concept just to throw more people in jail.
edit: it's not really 9-0, i read the decision and it was poorly reported. alito/thomas/barrett would've required the docs to prove that they acted in good faith, the other six required the government to prove that the doctors knew the prescriptions weren't authorized.
