NYPD charges New Springville woman with murder after newborn was found in trash

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- Police have filed murder charges against 28-year-old Nausheen Rahman after a dead newborn was found in a garbage bag outside her home in New Springville Saturday.

Rahman was arrested Saturday night and charged with concealment of a human corpse, according to police.

Less than 24 hours later, police charged her with second-degree murder, according to a written statement from the NYPD's Deputy Commissioner of Public Information.

Police say Rahman lives at 174 Richmond Hill Road -- the same address where the infant's body was found inside of a trash receptacle Saturday morning.

An NYPD spokesman was unable to confirm the suspect's relation to the child -- however, Rahman is believed to be the dead child's mother, according to a law enforcement source with knowledge of the case.

According to an NBC New York report, Rahman was charged with second-degree murder after the medical examiner concluded the baby was alive before being placed in the trash -- but as of Sunday evening, the NYPD spokesman said that hasn't been confirmed and stated that the investigation is ongoing.

This (the child's death) is so sad! Pisses me off how tragedies like this occur when there are women who would love to have a child, but cannot.

As for her, she's vile, and she deserves to pay the price for this.

I don't understand how these second-degree murder charges would make her more presentable to her family/friends/community/culture than having given up a child for adoption, though. Now she has shamed herself and her people twice as much. At least the child could've lived.
