Puff is like Phil Jackson in the sense that if you give him talent, he will refine it and take them to the next level..
He had the Hitmen in the studio and he was directing nikkas on what to do to take the record to where it needs to be..
His ear cant be hated on..
Telling a nikka to add a bassline here or a synth line there is a talent within itself...

Puff is not a musical genius like a Quik.
He's at best when you give Puff talent(beatmakers and artists).
But he can't turn sh!t into wine like a Quik can. He doesn't have the talents let alone the genius to do that and he knows it. One of many reasons why he has been successful.

i just want to know where he got the idea from to use those old records without fully sampling them one after the other, like where did he get that from? that must of came from somewhere cause everyone use to sample bits and pieces and some more but puffy said fuk it we taking this old song, we gonna pay them too but we making this a smash hit, like wtf, if puffy said that to me in the early days i would of said nah bro u not using my album budget for that lol but some how it worked in a long run for him
Puff's executive produced some of the best Hip Hop and Contemporary R&B albums ever. Biggie isn't a GOAT without Puff. Mary's best work isn't her best work without Puff. A lot of artists and producers aren't in the game without Puff. Puff is great at polishing diamonds in the rough.

I'm not trying to troll this thread but I've never seen a video of Puffy making a beat. Can someone post a Youtube link of him working on an MPC or behind the mixing boards so we can see what he actually does production wise? (not just telling someone what to do or overseeing it).

hes not a producer like that fam that should be already known
he pretty muchh saw how the stuff should be put together , told beat makers which record to sample, told rappers/singers what tunes they should use and im sure he was very vocal with them in the studio, he was just smart enough to put his name on certain credits cause i guess he gets a cut off that too, thats what producing is, u can make 100 beats it dont make u a producer u a beat maker , u can have a film camera but that dont make u a producer
