Devin Wilson, father of 4 and Air Force Veteran, was gunned down as he tried to protect a woman that was being abused. He Died A Hero: Hey daddy, we miss you so much. I know that you love me… you told me everyday. I really want to hug you tight, dance with you and play. Devin Wilson’s 6 year-old daughter shared those words at her father’s candlelight vigil. Family members and friends gathered together to remember the man that gave his life for others. The father of 4 was retired from the US Air Force and he worked as a security guard at an IHOP in Memphis, Tennessee. One of the employees at IHOP had an ex-boyfriend who showed up at the job to attack her. Wilson stepped in to protect her. I wasn’t surprised. That’s Devin, said Katina Rounds, Devin Wilson’s mother. Rounds spoke with WREG about Wilson, he middle son. I had three sons, she said. It was always Katina and the boys. As Wilson stepped in to protect a fellow employee who was being choked by her ex-boyfriend, the man then shot Wilson in the head and a security guard in the wrist, police said. Wilson later died at the hospital. While his mother is saddened by her son’s death, she is even more sad that no one stopped to help him. Someone recorded a video of Wilson alone on the sidewalk screaming out for help and they shared it to Facebook. The disturbing thing to me about the video is the person that`s recording it, the people that are standing around looking at him. Not one person assisted him, but yet he’s giving his life trying to help someone else.
Rounds shared that if she would have been at the restaurant, she would have intervened to tell her son to mind his business. However, that still wouldn’t have stopped him because Wilson was the kind of person the helped people in need. If I would’ve been there, I would’ve said ‘Devin, leave that alone, that`s not your business,’she said. He still would have intervened. Graphic Video: The video can be found on YouTube here. Now, her son is gone but she’s thankful that he left four beautiful children behind. The family of Devin Wilson created a Go Fund Me page to raise money for his children as his wife is left to raise them alone. Wilson married his elementary crush. She has four children and now she has to think about how she’s going to support them because it’s just her, Rounds said. No arrests have been made in the Devin Wilson case and his family wants answers. The woman that was attacked has not shown up to work since the shooting of Wilson and no one has heard from her. Wilson showed kindness and compassion as he died protecting someone else, it’s time for someone to pay it forward.
