Sega Genesis was a decent system. Had a nice little run.

The Sega Genesis, also known as the Mega Drive in some regions, was a popular video game console that was released in 1988. The console was known for its advanced graphics and sound capabilities, and it was the main competitor to the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES) during the 16-bit era of video games.

The Sega Genesis had a significant cultural impact on the video game industry and popular culture as a whole. Here are some of the key ways in which it made an impact:

Popularizing Sonic the Hedgehog: One of the most iconic video game characters of all time, Sonic the Hedgehog was first introduced in 1991 on the Sega Genesis. Sonic quickly became a popular cultural icon, and the character is still beloved by gamers to this day.

Advancing console technology: The Sega Genesis was one of the first video game consoles to incorporate 16-bit technology, which allowed for more advanced graphics and sound capabilities than earlier consoles. This helped to pave the way for future consoles with even more advanced technology.

Shaping the console wars: The rivalry between Sega and Nintendo during the 16-bit era was intense, with both companies vying for dominance in the video game market. The Sega Genesis played a major role in this rivalry, with its advanced technology and strong library of games helping it to compete with the SNES.

Launching classic franchises: In addition to Sonic the Hedgehog, the Sega Genesis also launched several other classic video game franchises, including Streets of Rage, Phantasy Star, and Golden Axe. These franchises have continued to thrive in the years since their initial releases.

Creating a unique gaming experience: The Sega Genesis had a distinct look and feel that set it apart from other video game consoles of its time. Its unique branding and marketing helped to create a loyal fanbase that still exists today.

Overall, the Sega Genesis had a major impact on the video game industry and helped to shape the way that we play and think about video games today. Its influence can still be felt in modern gaming, and its legacy continues to inspire new generations of gamers

This entire field is quite nuts, especially for those of us who grew with it. The N vs S beef on playgrounds made me think as a jit that people will quite literally draw sides over anything and then ride like their life depended on it.

Could never get into that mentality like people do with a team, their street or anything else you can think. Always came off a character weakness that needed the borrowed strength of the collective to create their own ident.

Stop and think about those who were all the way into it back when and it will illustrate it well.

To me its just a game. Within a Game....

The genesis dropped two years before the SNES, it's impressive it was able to keep up with the SNES at all considering it was built with technology that was two years older.

Nintendo got around some of the hardware limitations with on cartridge processors (it's the only reason games like Star Fox were possible).

Most of the big game studios were bullied into exclusive contracts with Nintendo due to the success of the NES. It's part of the reason that the same version of video games rarely was released on both consoles by big studios (think TMNT and Contra).

Sega did some stupid shxt with all the extra hardware peripherals (CD, 32x) on the genesis, the American and Japanese parts of the company beefing over the game catalog, priotized sprites instead of polygon generation in the next console and foregoing moving the Arcade (which they were dominating at the time) experience into homes. It's a miracle and a testament to the Genesis that it was able to give the SNES a fight at all considering how many things the SNES had going for itself.

TLDR: Nintendo did everything to set up the Genesis to crash and burn TurboGrafx style but the genesis did very well anyway.

Cus video games was expensive!

Back in the day we ain't had the money for Sega AND Nintendo in the crib.

Nowadays having Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo in the living room is normal, but owning two game systems in the 90s was like having two TV sets in the 50s.

You had to choose one and roll with it. So of course people got defensive over their purchases. shyt was personal. Like "haha you bought the Sega Saturn? shyt sucks, dummy!" And that shyt stang for real cus you dropped $500 you saved up over the entire year for that Sega Saturn, an extra controller and a couple games. And your friends that dropped $300 on that new Sony Playstation the same year are clowning you and playing more games.

It's like losing a poker match. That shyt really had nikkas heated.

Lil Genesis fun fact for yall. Did you know Sega produced "Buster Douglas Knockout Boxing" as a shot at Nintendo, who had an endorsement deal with the totally disgraced at the time Mike Tyson, who Douglas knocked out.

:pachaha:Kids today will never know how savage these companies was with dissing each other back in the day.

It's still expensive. Console pricing has decreased but they get you on the new video games and other subscriptions such as online play. New video games go for like $80. I believe the PS1 was around $300-400. PS5 is roughly $500. The value of money has gone up around 2.5% per year since the PS1 launched in 1995. That's almost $800 in today dollars.

I was Genesis Gang all damn day.

The hours me and my brother put in on that system playing NHL94, Madden, Sonic games, etc :banderas:

I always contend that Sega had the best sports games. @Art Barr disagreed and I took a debate L to him but I still stand on it :damn:

I cant vouch too much for the 16 bit stuff, but Sega Sports from 98 onward made everything else look like a joke.
