They're working now but I've had conversations similar to my mom about how men and women are treated.
Ever since I was a skinny kid there were some times in my family I had to watch my tone because I may have been seen as aggressive. Granted my father abused my mother and she left, but even so I was told I had an anger issue. My family leads matriarchal and I think the men, including myself, had to bear the sins of some of the men before us.
My mother was hyper sensitive about abuse towards women and even told me not to (I never attacked a woman lol), yet when I told her I was attacked by two of my exes...which she was aware of one of them at the time...she wasn't as understanding of my situation. Granted I can handle myself, but we ALL know if a woman attacks you walk away.
My mother and grandmother were aware of how I was treated in elementary school. I was a good student, even accepted to a STEM magnet school, but there were incidents where I was punished after a kid (white) bothered me. One time a young girl accused me of having blue underwear (we were 5 - 6) I showed her the brim of my underwear in class and I got sent to the principals office.
Young Black boys definitely have a different experience growing up. I think that since my mother had a son (me) she's aware of this but it brings good discourse
