I still really don’t like this matchup for Bud. Too much weight difference, too old in age, not walkover/easy competition that’s going to be standing in front of you the whole night, etc. Saw Canelo nearly one shot a ~200 lbs. Hispanic fighter last year, the power difference will be crazy. Bud will have to land a lot and not get hit in order to wear out Canelo who has a monster chin.

I can see why the risk though. Being undefeated don’t mean much when Mayweather is 51-0 with more meaningful wins. You’re not going to beat that legacy-wise unless you do something crazy, like jump up in weight 20 lbs. to fight a top P4P fighter. Bud taking an L won’t hurt his legacy that much all things considered and getting a W will be enormous.

Front page so if I’m wrong I’m owning up to it. Bud is one of the few fighters who can probably pull it off, but to me it’s still unlikely.

The key is what happens if Canelo hits the power shot on the chin...

I love it. advantages and disadvantages. They both will have them. Everyone talking about weight. It may play a factor but much less than what people think. Bud is an athlete. He is a physically strong and agile wrestler by background. He has strong quick feet and legs. He is an athlete. He is a good hooper. His reflexes are still excellent for his weight class.

Think about this though for all those talking about weight….it would behoove Canelo to come in lighter so his speed will be up to par. This ain’t GGG. Yall think he coming in at 168? He could not cut off ring against Scull.

I think Bud comes in between 158-163. I think Canelo comes in at 165-166. Weigh in they will be about 4-6pbs apart. Bud looks like he is carrying the weight well. He is an inch taller and longer arms so he isn’t really that much smaller just has a different frame yet one that can possibly carry the weight better.

Canelo not Tyson. Who he knock out? When? Why yall think he gonna kill Bud when he couldn’t stop a bloated Charlo? Size isn’t about weight it’s about frame. For Canelo to beat Bud he will need some combinations not single shot. Bud isn’t worried about Canelo’s power he is worried about Canelo’s accuracy and getting caught with something he don’t see.

Canelo is strong however and he can go through or around your gloves. Great body puncher too. But if he plodding around he gonna look up in the late rounds and see he desperately needs a knockout. Bud’s jab will be huge in this fight.

Think bud will come in around 165. Coming in too light would help with his speed but also hurt his punch resistance. I expect him to come in at a solid weight. Which is why I think he decided to forgo a stay busy fight. He wants to use all this time to gain muscle naturally and efficiently.

Never thought I would be seeing my two favorite fighters facing eachother. This shyt gonna be surreal. Of course canelo should be the favorite off size alone. But I can't even picture bud losing. He still has that superman aura about him. Like no matter what he's always gonna find a way to win.

Imo, this fight is gonna be won on defense. Plain and simple. I'm not worried about buds offense. He should be razor sharp. But I am worried about his defense. He always takes a few flush shots on the chin every fight. Even Spence caught him a couple times. This version of canelo will still be the best fighter bud has ever fought. Bud is gonna have no choice but to fight a more defensive fight than he's used to.

Canelo's whole gameplan is gonna revolve around trying to make bud show too much pride. Get him to over extend himself just once. Canelo knows he can't outbox bud. He just gotta bait him into something. And that's what canelo's specialty is. I expect canelo to come in light and to use a lot of feints and body attacks. He's gonna try to set bud up for that right hand over the top.

Regardless of what you think about this fight. This is gonna be a huge night for the sport. The whole world will be watching. Boxing is back :wow:

Bud's frame definitely handles the weight better/has the better structure, Canelo is all blockish/stumpy looking with little legs imo. Bud has the more athletic appeal/look.

Canelo has never been great at cutting the ring off and even is even more subpar at it in his current stage. He will get pieced up and has only a punches chance imo. Just depends on how Bud's own legs/chin hold up to the power. Charlo folded up/got shook just from getting hit on the arms.

I am going to give a different perspective about punch resistance. I believe from hearing from many fighters that punch resistance comes from you comfortability with you weight. Caveat is a fighter “should” get down to the lowest weight possible that they “feel” comfortable at.

What is that weight for Bud? He was obviously killing himself at 135, he definitely was at 147 waiting for Spence but even said it wasn’t necessarily easy to make 154. I believe at this stage with his frame Bud is 160lber.

Gamboa hurting him could have been partially due to punch resistance but I believe it was mostly because of his speed and Bud walked in to a shot he didn’t see just like Inoue just did.

I am pretty sure Canelo can get close to 160 himself. Just ONE example is Hearns started at 147 (140 as am) and went to CW. He was an effective LWH. Hagler maybe could have fought at 168 at best.

It takes a special fighter to be able to beat top fighters in multiple divisions but frame and how they add/lose weight is important as well as style. Corrales had the height but with his style and the way he put on weight he just couldn’t fukk with welters like Floyd.
