Overall, I'm trying to plan more. I created calendars for workouts, meal planning and just general day to day. Not saying I'll following it every day, but I want to use them as baselines for when I fall off.

Career wise, I'm just trying to land a role by end of March. I'm narrowing my focus down to Qlik and Project management related roles, since I have most experience in those areas. My daughter and I are sharing a computer right now since her school device is broken, but once her new one comes, I'll be able to dedicate time to fixing up my resume and the training courses I purchases via Udemy. Once that happens, I'll focus on obtaining Qlik and PMP certs by end of June.

Financially, I'm trying to save 15% consistently and just be a better saver in general. I'm doing well so far lol, just sliding money of the top when the deposit hits. I made my budget more detailed so I can forecast better.

On the health tip, no specific goals there, but I do need to exercise more and my workout plan has been helping with that. I mashed up a bunch of exercises/plans from magazines I had :old:, darebee or other online resources. I also want to cut down on dairy and sugar intake. I have a plan for that too lol. Created a menu book based on macros, but I haven't totally gotten on board yet. I'm going to work more on it over the weekend. Oh and I ordered some new running shoes.

2021 is really going to start for me next week. I'll finally wrap up a side project I had planned to finish by end of 2020 but got delayed. Once done I can fully transition to my 2021 goals. Best part is I’m debt free now. Just paid of my car note (5-yr note paid off in 11 months).

Per 2021 goals, I’m breaking them up into halves. 1 half and 2nd half.

I should be moving to Cali by summer (maybe even later) so my main focus prior to that move is to get high a GMAT score (750+/800) for possible B-School in a few years and bolster my savings and investments while I have the capacity. I’m keeping it very simple for this 1st half of the year because a 750+ is gonna be a grind but I know this is the best time to take it. It’s cold and we’re in a pandemic so everything is shuttered. I’d hate start worrying about the score when I move to Cali.

How to get the score? pretty much just cut off all distractions, chiefly SM (not really even on it like that, Coli and Discord are my main SM) and just putting in 2-3 hours of study every day. 3-4 on the weekends.

Per savings and investments, I’ve been staying in my family house since the start of the pandemic so my rent is practically non-existent. Big reason I was able to knock out my car debt so quickly. Right now I’m planning on saving about 48% of my AT income in cash and then investing another 18-20% between my Roth, ESPP, Brokerage and some Crypto. 401k is taken off the pre-tax so I don’t even see that. I should hit my savings goal by Jun/Jul and if I haven’t moved yet, I’ll look to invest 60-65% of my income into the market.

That’s pretty much it for the first half of the year. Depending on how quickly I can knock out the GMAT will determine how quickly I can pivot to other things (skills development, side projects, etc). So far so good, I’m grateful.

Side note: I do need a holiday/vacation though. Just switched jobs a couple months back so I didn’t have enough PTO for a proper holiday and prior to leaving my old job I only took 2 days off in between starting this new job. No lie, I’m kinda gassed.

This year, I'm adding trail markers to my goals so that I can track my goals throughout the year and see more clearly when I need to catch up. I started off with general end-of-year goals and then worked my way down to weekly scheduling:

2021 Goals
Get in shape by losing 10-15 lbs
  • As the vaccine-adoption become more widespread, the entire world is going to be treating summer like Freaknik. I don't want to be out here flabby and sick when the choosing starts.
Increase my social confidence in spite of Covid
  • Most people will be a little rusty socializing after covid. I want to hit the ground running.
Read 25 books
  • I've been doing a lot more reading to end 2020 but I figured I'd put a # to it in 2021.
Embrace minimalism in my life & apartment
  • Covid reinforced how little I need to get by. The less shyt I have worry about, the easier it is to keep my apartment, mind & life free of clutter.
Back-to-back profitable trading months
  • I'm getting used to the WFH lifestyle. If I become good at trading, I can make it permanent.
Get skilled/certified in Power BI
  • Let's say I'm successful enough trading that I quit my job... but then it goes left. I want certs on the ready as a worst case scenario to rejoin the 9-5 crowd.

Weekly Structure to Achieve Goals
Get in Shape
  • Go for at least one bike ride during the weekend as long as there's no snow or actual rain on the road
  • Add bananas and other food to my protein shakes so that they can replace a meal instead of being a stand alone drink
  • Kettlebell Workouts @ 7pm on Monday/Tuesday/Thursday/Friday
Confidence
  • Wednesdays from 7-8pm are focused on confidence-related tasks
  • When socializing restarts, no more than 1-2 nights clubbing per week
    • Less dependency on alcohol
    • Ensure productivity the following day
    • More quality people are out during the day than the night
Reading
  • During the week, 8:30 - 10pm is booked for reading.
  • For efficiency, I can tackle two birds with one stone by reading books related to my other goals
Minimalism
  • Every time I leave my apartment, I will find one thing to throw away or put aside for donations
Trading
  • 5pm - 6:30 is for trading only. During the weekend, I will dedicate 3 hours per day to trading
Professional
  • I will block off Thursday afternoons on my work calendar so that I am free to do professional development uninterrupted.
General
  • I will use Sunday mornings to track how I did for the week re: all my goals.

goals / results

Gym / pass. I go 6x a week.
Diet / fail. I’m a fat ass.
Certs / fail. Been on that bs.
Online store / fail. Been on these hoes.
Travel / pass. Been out the country twice this year
Enjoy life / pass. This is most important.

Nice thread. Should help keep me accountable. I need to make some adjustments so I can make progress on all of my goals by end of Q2.

At this point I’m going to focus all my energy on HTML and CSS. I want to master does 2. I have always been fascinated with the Web. My problem is that I kept looking for that niche language: Python, JavaScript and even Ruby back when it was hot.

It might seems simple but making a complex website only with html and Css without JavaScript is not so easy. CSS alone has so many components to remember when making a design fluid and responsive it can drain you if you not into it.

and then when I can do anything I want to do with html and css, I will go balls deep into JavaScript.

Learn Kiswahili and be able to carry a basic conversation by the end of the year.

I am achieving this goal by attending two to three Kiswahili classes a week online.

I already compled a professional certificate on edx.org in January so that is done.

Get in shape in the next three months. I bought a stationary bike and workout 30-minutes every morning

I started a new position in January as a controller close to home. My cfo is sixty. I don't see her doing this no more than five years max. So, career goals are to lead my team so that I can show I should be the heir apparent in the finance department. I think I'm going to have to get my CPA though. It's not that I'm afraid of it, I've honestly never needed the designation to this point. I've just been better than everyone else. However, the fancy title works well at the top.

That is a summary of career goals.

Personal, just try to slow down life even more. Enjoy the small things. I think I've finally learned to not expect 'me' from anyone else. Meaning if someone doesn’t do a job as well as I do, don't even bother getting frustrated. Either make a way or bytch and moan while making excuses. Being an even better person, husband and father as well.

Q2
Get in Shape
  • Bike for at least 120 miles Easily Completed.
  • Work my way up to using a 35 lbs kettlebell for workouts Failed thanks to a tweaked shoulder accounting for 1-2 missed workoutss and then subsequently slacking off

Confidence
  • Finish another book on socializing Completed

Imma double down on my outstanding Q2 goals. It's gonna be tough since I'll be juggling a social life as well but I will just have to be more organized.
