There was a time when I would snack on

cheese puffs,
sweet southern heat lays bbq potato chips,
the Blue Diamond brand of almonds,
m&m’s …and just all kinds of crap. And I was addicted to it.

Now, I know somebody’s reading this thinking “how are almonds “crap”, but make no mistake about it, just because they’re almonds doesn’t mean it isn’t crap. If it’s packaged not bought whole, then it’s pretty much crap. And I was eating packaged almonds. :comeon:

However, for quite some time now I’ve switched it up and have been snacking on much healthier options such as fresh vegetables. :blessed:

Fresh vegetables can seem rather unappealing to most people- and even for the people who DO choose to give it a shot they can become quite boring rather quickly, and then you just revert back to the junk snacks. So I thought I’d just share one way that I choose to add some funk to it, that keeps me coming back every night.

I take a mix of your typical vegetable snacks, chop the up and put them in a bowl, and I drizzle a bit of sesame oil over them and then sprinkle some crushed red pepper on it. This combo adds a very savory flavor to them with just the right amount of kick to make you crave it night after night and not even think about the junk crap snacks anymore.

And basically I just wanted to share this with the brehs because a lot of us are hitting our 30s and 40s and it is imperative that we start eating healthier, especially with our snacking.

If you prefer a sweeter fix, I would imagine you could replace the sesame oil and crushed red pepper with something like brown sugar and cinnamon? But don’t hold me to that as I have never even tried that before. And yes, I am aware that sesame oil might not be all that healthy in and of itself but it sure is much healthier than sitting here eating cheese puffs!

And I could certainly use more ideas so if any of yall are into healthy snacks and have some ideas please share!

The issue with snacking is that very rarely is it satiating.

I don’t care what people say about protein filling you up. Most of the time it isn’t. Even if you get something like quest protein chips or beef jerky, you’re still gonna be hungry. Because it’s just not enough volume of food…in my experience.

Some of the few simple ones that work are:

1) protein shakes, but only if you add Greek yogurt and some berries to get the fiber up.

2) Popcorn. As long as it’s not seasoned with a lot of butter. Or super salty because that salt can trigger a bigger craving.

3) apples. I don’t really know anyone who can eat 2 apples and not feel like that’s enough.

4) people don’t think of it as a snack but oatmeal for me is a good one. Half a cup of oats is 150 calories. Plus whatever milk you choose (people who use water are psychopaths). Or add some fruit. That’s around 300 cals and will hold you down 2-3 hours.
