Ravens eyed Shedeur in draft, but QB nixed pick
The Ravens were planning to draft Shedeur Sanders, but the QB didn't want to be on a roster without a clear path to playing time, sources told ESPN.
- The Baltimore Ravens had planned to select Shedeur Sanders in the 5th round, with the 141st overall pick in the NFL Draft.
- However, Sanders communicated to Baltimore that he didn’t want to be drafted by them. His reasoning: he didn’t want to be on a roster with Lamar Jackson and not have a chance to play anytime soon.
- Sanders wanted to be drafted by a team where he might have a clearer path to playing.
- Instead of drafting Sanders, the Ravens used the 141st pick on offensive lineman Carson Vinson.
- Three picks later (so slightly after the Ravens’ decision), the Cleveland Browns selected Shedeur Sanders at No. 144.
- In Cleveland, Sanders is listed as the third quarterback on the depth chart behind Joe Flacco and fellow rookie Dillon Gabriel. There is opportunity ahead though, since other QBs (like Kenny Pickett and Tyler Huntley) have been moved or released.
