After all the hoopla surrounding
Shia LaBeouf's plagiarism of a Daniel Clowes comic and subsequent 'retirement,' it seems the actor hasn't actually retired at all. In fact, he's signed to star opposite Bill Murray in Barry Levinson's new movie, Rock the Kasbah.
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that LaBeouf will join Murray, Bruce Willis, Kate Hudson, Danny McBride and Zooey Deschanel in the indie comedy about a washed up rock manager who discovers a young girl in Afghanistan with an extraordinary voice, and proceeds to manage her through the country's version of American Idol. The movie will start shooting in June from a script written by Mitch Glazer.
“I couldn’t have dreamed of a more perfect team of comic actors to round out this wickedly funny and heartfelt film,” said Levinson.
The news comes a couple of weeks after LaBeouf Tweeted that he was
retiring from all public life in the wake of Internet frenzy over his plagiarism and - let's face it - some pretty
bizarre behaviour. He has since attributed said behaviour to
performance art.
The actor has Tweeted "I AM NOT FAMOUS ANYMORE" semi-regularly since January 14.
