Listening to trap music with artists such as Gucci Mane, Waka Flocka, and Chief Keef actually temporarily decreases your IQ by 29.5 points. The duration of this effect is unknown, but with evidence suggesting that the more you choose to listen to this type of music, the dumber you become.
However,
Listening to smart hip hop like the Reasonable Doubt album by Jay-Z actually temporarily increases your IQ by at least 15 points. Similarly, the duration of this effect is not known, but you actually do become more smart the more you choose to listen to this type of music.
The study was conducted among 10 teenagers of similar IQ and background. 5 were taken into a room and forced to listen to "Love Sosa" by "Chief Keef" for 24 hours straight.
The frightening results after 24 hours were not too surprising. The 5 kids came out of the room dancing and shouting phrases like,
"Bang bang,"
"These bytches love Sosa,"
"God y'all some broke boys,"
"Rari's and Rovers."
When asked what they wanted to do, all 5 of the kids responded and said they wanted to shoot people, sniff cocaine, and steal cars.
However, when the other 5 kids left the room after listening to Reasonable Doubt for 24 hours straight, the results were a little different.
All 5 of these kids had increased ambitions, improved vocabulary, and a newly found respect for there elders.
We must conclude that the dumbing down of hip hop is having a large effect on the youth of America, and major labels like Interscope will not rest until every single youth within reach of a radio station wants to do nothing but end up in jail.
Thank you for reading.
