21-Year-Old Who Fell Asleep on Seattle Bus Is Randomly Shot Dead, 17-Year-Old Suspect Turns Himself In
Marcel Wagner was sleeping when Miguel Rivera Dominguez opened fire on a city bus and killed him, authorities allege
A 17-year-old boy is facing a murder charge after allegedly shooting and killing a 21-year-old passenger who had fallen asleep on a Seattle, Wash., bus, authorities said.
On Monday, after a month-long search, Miguel Rivera Dominguez turned himself in to authorities, the King County Sheriffâs Office said in a statement.
The teen is charged with first-degree murder and second-degree unlawful possession of a firearm, according to the King County Prosecuting Attorneyâs Office, the Seattle Times and the Associated Press report.
He is expected to be tried as an adult.
The charges stem from a terrifying shooting aboard a King County Metro Transit Bus in White Center at 5:10 p.m. on Oct. 3.
Surveillance video allegedly shows Dominguez boarding the bus wearing a full ski mask, police said, KATV reports.
He allegedly sat in the back of the bus for 12 minutes before he pulled out a handgun and opened fire, shooting Wagner, police said, according to KATV.
Wagner seemed to be asleep when he was shot, the King County Sheriffâs Office said in the statement.
Prosecutors claimed in charging documents obtained by ABC News and the Associated Press that Dominguez shot the victim in the head and neck "without any provocation, and in fact without having ever interacted with the victim at all."
Prosecutors called the shooting "senseless execution of a total stranger," according to KATV.
As 15 others on the bus screamed and tried to run for cover, âThe defendant then fired two more shots through the door of the bus and fled to a location where he could change his clothing before returning home again,â prosecutors added in the charging documents, ABC News reports.
None of the other passengers on the bus or the driver were injured in the shooting, police said, King5 reports.
Wagner died from multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police launched a massive search for the shooter, who fled the scene and was considered armed and dangerous.
âMultiple specialized units, including Guardian 1 aerial support and a K9 Unit, responded to conduct a thorough search for the individuals involved,â the KCSO said in the statement.
On Oct. 16, police identified Dominguez as the suspect. Authorities said they donât believe he and Wagner knew each other.
As police continue to investigate, friends and family continue to mourn Wagnerâs shocking death.
"Another young soul lost," Wagner's former teacher at Chief Sealth International High School, Vernel Nicholas, told King5. "Sitting on a bus, asleep. Sleeping!â
He remembers Wagner as âenergetic, outgoing and lovable,â and said he always told him to âcontinue to focus on your goals.â King5 reports.
Dominguez is being held on a $3 million bail.
It is unclear whether he has retained an attorney who can speak on his behalf.
