see thats the thing though...people are getting educated, its just the cost people aren't liking
And people don't like being told what to do, so whereas there are tons of jobs, people are majoring in bullshyt regardless.
People definitely major in bullshyt, just to say they're in college. It's an issue that needs to be taken on from many different perspectives. We need to educate kids better in so many different areas before they even get in the position to start to make the decision where they want to go to college.
If we're not going to make a concerted effort to push reform in that area (and I know I didn't get into specifics but I'm a little pressed for time and I'm sure you can think of plenty of those areas on your own), then we need to really get back to focusing on manufacturing and building the middle class back up that way, and also I think we can (and we are) continue to push various tech/vocational schools that shorten and cheapen the process for people going into certain careers.
It's a long road to try and fix our education system, from the ground up, with so many different views and opinions, to be honest I'm more pessimistic than optimistic about the future of our country in this, and most areas in general, which is why I'll sometimes jump in to criticize so quick before giving it much critical thought, which I know isn't doing anything to help the problem, but at the least it helps me vent some frustration slightly.

picture the older generation accepting that shyt back in their day. You'd be an "idealistic" 20 year old spouting free education if you had to get 30k in loans to afford school
