Background: My good friend (who is hispanic) is dating this white dude who she wanted to introduce to her friends.

Looks like a normal dude at first, but then I start to get my suspicions about him.

Exhibit A

Context: First meeting him, boombox has some blues playing, and it's Stevie Ray Vaughan. I'm open-minded so I ask, "who's this? and he says, "SRV, the only white dude who does Blues right."

...a little suspect, but right off the bat, he makes a point to point out someone's race.

Suspect level: About :rudy:, not quite enough to get me to call him out, but enough to side-eye his ass.

Exhibit B

Context: Two random black dudes pass by the parking lot.

"See those homies over there?"

Now we're getting to about :shaq2: level. That was some definitely suspect shyt.

Exhibit C

Context: Talking about music. Again, I'm open-minded so I bring up all types of bands. By this point, I'm really suspicious, so I put the feelers out there to try to test him out...IMO, he doesn't fail (or fails, depending on how you look at it).

Me - I like all kinds of sh*t, man.

Him - Do you like Killswitch Engage or Sevendust?

Now we're at :beli: levels...this motherfukker went out of his way to not only point out bands with black members, but they were the FIRST two bands he brings up.

Exhibit D

Random comments about my hair being in dreads.

You can tell that this motherfukker doesn't spend much time around black people so from this you can either call him condescending, or just an overeager cac trying to impress.

Anyway, what do you all think? Should I have called him out?

Was he just an overeager cac trying to impress, or was he one of those cowardly racist piece of shyt trying to say some slick shyt, but think that because I'm black, I'm too stupid to pick up on it?

Exhibit A, was trying to show you he was down.
Exhibit B, needs more context. What did he say about those two guys beyond pointing them out?
Exhibit C, was trying to show you he was down - not that I know anything about those bands or think they are a black band but the fact they had black members makes me think that.
Exhibit D, needs more context. What did he say about your dreads? Did he ask to touch them?

All in all I wouldn't cuss him out because he sounds like he's trying to be cool if anything. Maybe ask your friend to have a gentle word?

Regarding Exhibit B- Two random black dudes walk down the sidewalk near the parking lot he was watching (he stands guard for a theater, like plays and sh*t) and he leans over to me and says, "hey, look at them, those are some real homies over there!"

Like what you tryin' to say, cuz? You barely even know me.

Regarding Exhibit D- It kinda tied in to to Exhibit C. The lead singer of Sevendust is a black dude with dreads, and he, for whatever reason ( :rudy: ) wanted to point our "similarities", which might as well begin and end at our skin color.

Additional Exhibit - Just the fact that he seemed keen on pointing out our differences and being somewhat slick and condescending about it.

At one point I was like, "yeah, I get it. I'm black. You happy now? Mystery solved."

I'm of the opinion, if you're trying to make friends, why even bother bringing up skin color?

It's not like a dude from another society who doesn't know any better, this motherfukker knows full well what he means and why he's saying it. :birdman:

Yeah fukk that shyt about some real homies, you should have put that straight on his toes like "what exactly do you mean by that?" My cousin moves in rock circles and he gets that kind of stuff constantly. He apparently looks like every black bald guy in a rock band. I'd speak to your friend about it. It's true what you say about bringing up skin colour, it's of no benefit.

I don't really even fukk with that scene like that. It's just that dude felt the need to bring up my skin color, or make some reference to no matter what we were talking about it.

Like everytime we'd talk about a subject, he'd bring it back to this point.

:what::wtf:
