Should ignorant people be shamed

I have a group just of dozens of people we all "cool"

Anyway the other day someone was talking about voting and this girl who is a nice looking girl and everyone is pretty much cool with says that in her opinion voting is only put in place to make you feel like you have control when you don't.

I made a side comment saying "things strippers say" and it offended her

After a few minutes I tell her that black people and other people voting of some sort is the reason She has the rights she has now.

She just replies with "that's an opinion not a fact ".

I immediately hit the and proceed to go in on her. In my opinion too many people in our community are willingly ignorant to the point that it damages the community as a whole. People like this need to be shamed

Yes the Willfully ignorant. They would fix up an do better it's way to cool to be stupid, being smart shouldn't be an anomaly. It's more obvious now more than ever before. I once told my older cousin to read something and her response was "I'm Black I don't read." Lost respect for her then and there.

I'm torn..

In one instance, the willfully ignorant need to be called to the floor, but at the same token, they are willfully ignorant by choice so no amount of shaming is going to change their minds & hearts until they go through something tragic..

I would say that the best thing to do is distance yourself from those you deem to be willfully ignorant and only associate yourself with those who are not willfully ignorant..

I don’t agree with her opinion but I do understand her reaction when you implied she was a stripper or had a strippers mentality.

if you truly want to teach someone you have to think about how it will be received. If you don’t care then you aren’t really trying to educate but shame.

People who are willfully ignorant even after presented with the facts deserve to be shamed. Americans pride themselves too much on individualism and acting like everyone’s voice is equal and deserves to be heard. Wrong. Some people are morons and if they’re presented with facts and they aren’t willing to accept them, they should be told that they’re morons. People getting offended and doubling down on their idiotic opinions when shown facts by folks who are literally experts in their particular field deserves to be shamed to no end.

Social media is to blame for some of it, giving a platform for every moron with any stupid ass thought to be shared and listened to. But people overall have always been stupid.
