Should teachers who can barely speak English, be hired/fired?

If you've attended college, I'm sure some of you have experienced that. Can hardly understand what the professor is saying because English is not their native language. Plus, he's teaching some hard math/science class. But what about if it's in middle school or high school. I'm sure some might say "that's discrimination". But if you're teaching and the kids don't know what you're saying. Shouldn't that be grounds for firing? I know that sounds extreme but if kids are suffering because they don't know what you're saying. You shouldn't be in the classroom. Do you agree or disagree with me?

Meh, pretty sure some teachers aren't sure if the children are speaking English either

good point, however it is mandatory to attend school up to a certain point. it is not a requirement to be a teacher. i think a foreign teacher is just fine as long as the kids on the whole are not suffering. there would have to be a real evaluation of why kids are doing poorly (if they even are). It's a good point on the OP's behalf but in practice it will likely be used to discriminate.

Knowledge of the subject is clearly important but if I can't - or struggle to -understand you, you're doing me no good.
I don't care that English isn't your native language because when final exams roll around, you're not taking pity on me because I had trouble understanding you throughout lecture.
The only course I ever dropped was due to this issue and I never made that mistake again.
I just did my homework before registering.

It depends though, depending on your major, that professor might be teaching a core course. You gotta learn to understand that fukka at that point. Had a professor from Poland or Ukraine or some shyt. Dude's accent was all types of fukked, but after 3 or so weeks, we were good to go.

I'm a fair person, but ever prof. with a thick accent I ever had was terrible. I always ended up just doing my own thing in the end.

I hear you but what is considered "barely"? Or what do YOU consider barely?

My "barely" and your "barely" will differ. Someone is entitled to have an accent because we all have accents. Granted there is a standard American English that is spoken in the News and Radio but still will all deviate from that to some degree.

In college I took Differential Equations with a math professor who had the roughest of japanese accents. My C++ programming professor had a rough Russian accent. But who am I to judge because i have an accent to. It should be up to the students when they fill out their student survey to express whether or not communication between the teacher and themselves is clear enough. YET most students will complain about a professor and never fill out those surveys.

It's like how (some) black people are with VOTING. Cry all day but never vote and wonder why white mayors run cities that are 65% black :yeshrug:

Well i more referring to high school. I just used college as an example of something many experience. In high school sometimes you dont have a choice in teachers. Accent as in its so broken it doesnt sound like English.
