I don't think he'd be eligible to be sent back to Chicago until the first day of next offseason. The December deadline is for free agents who signed deals (and Rose was eligible to be dealt before that)



This goes with those rules that prevent guys being able to return to teams that cut or traded them so soon.

That also applies to players traded as well. You can't get dealt back to the same team for at least a year or the first day of the new free agent season. In Rose's case he couldn't get dealt back to Chicago til June 22, which is moot in his case since he'll be a free agent.
