I wouldn't go back and play halo combat evolved over some of its sequels either. Games always get better with time. But with each console launch we've gotten the start of a movement. A game that will influence games for the entire gen.
people go back and replay Halo and Mario all the time. you talk about classic but then you list titles that by what you're saying are the opposite of classic.

classic stands the test of time classic isn't hot when it came out but i already moved on and wouldn't touch it now. Halo just got a re-release not too long ago because the fans wanted that classic to be revisited. Mario 64 got re-released too several times in face. nobody is trying to replay Project Gotham Racing nor would a re-release mean much.

The stoop with dat dope fanny padding
when was the last time you went back and played or even wanted to play Call of Duty 2? some of these games belong to series where the title launched and sold ok and got a sequel or two and 2 or so sequels later became a stronger series and now you're trying to retroactively lump the original title into the brand strength something like Dub Edition or Modern Warfare created just because the far more forgettable launch title is in the same series.

check my gamertag i played Call of Duty 2 and beat it. probably the only game i got 1000 on but i'll never play it again nor would i want to. its not classic.

This argument is dumb.

The Mario launch games were classic, but I'm not fiending to go back and play them.

Regardless of which games were classics or not, there have been fun launch titles that have come off and shown off the future of the system.

Even something like the ESPN Extreme Games for PS1 was awesome.

But PS4 has none of that, shame on them.

Dead Rising, KI, and Forza are most likely gonna be a 9/10 on most reviews.

Ryse is a wild card right now, that could go either way.

go to any gaming community and ask when's the last time somebody played Kameo or even thought of it.

launch titles get the lowered expectations benefit. people keep lowering their expectations until they find a few they want because that's all that's available on their new console and they want the new console.

game development cost too much to get a game like Halo at launch because the install bases are far too small. that's a primary reason we don't get classic launch titles anymore. they save those games for the end of year 1 or year 2 at the least. launch titles are mostly ports of old generation games or cross generational titles.

I've already said this on these forums but i'll say it again here. Microsoft's Xbox One launch lineup of exclusives is way better than Sony's. I'm not a Sony apologist. their launch line up sucks.

Plenty of people still name kameo as one of their favorite 360 games, and a sequel would get plenty of gamers excited.

You keep moving goalposts for what you consider classic. Jet set radio just got an HD remake, is that a timeless classic?

My expectations are not low at all. If you notice, it's only Sony fans who say launch games are shyt. I wonder why:lupe:

And with this launch there are lots of games coming out, so the media must be very busy going through the games quickly," he continued, "and especially since the online functionality wasn't ready until in the last couple days. So we have to look at how much time they spend on what aspect of the games and how that may be contributing to some of the lower scores.

:bryan:or how about the games are:trash:

Not really a Sony fan. I'm a gamer in general. If a company makes a game that interest me I'm gonna play it regardless of the platform its on which is why I own all major ones. I'm saying this as a gamer. In the past 17 years there have been 2 revolutionary classic launch titles and those are Halo Combat Evolved and Mario 64. At the end of a generation most people aren't even mentioning launch titles anymore because the vast majority of them have no lasting legacy. They're the stuff we play because that's all there is more so than the stuff we play out of anticipation.

If The Last of Us was a launch title at the end of the generation people would likely still speak highly of it even if sequels surpassed it. Like people still speak highly of Halo even though its had many sequels.

I'm not moving the goal post on anything. I didn't say any game that gets an HD remake is classic i said Halo Combat Evolved was classic. You on the other hand tried to imply Call of Duty 2 was classic while admitting you'd likely never revisit the title again. How can something with disposable entertainment value and no real lasting appeal be classic to you just because you enjoyed it at the time? you might wanna look up the word classic and reevaluate if Call of Duty 2 still qualifies to you.

I also said I wouldn't go back and play Halo.

Over the years there have been plenty of classic launch titles. COD is one of them.

The idea that we should expect mediocrity from launch titles stems entirely from the ps3 launch.

That's just how it is:manny:

no it stems from the fact that developers are at their worst in terms of maximizing a system's potential when new systems launch. Call of Duty 2 was a solid game. its far from a classic. when people start mentioning the greatest games of all time. the classic titles that define gaming the vast majority of the titles on that list aren't launch titles. Call of Duty 4 was a classic. it redefined the console shooter. it redefined online multiplayer on consoles and spawned countless clones and sequels done in the same vein and to this day its still spawning them. Call of Duty 2 was a fun weekend rental that i damn near forgot existed till you brought it up.

Pointless to debate with him. Once his opinion is set, its done. Waste of keypresses :lolbron:

I for one give no fukks about what others say about Killzone. Im quite sure i will enjoy the "mediocre, non genre pushing" game as much as I will enjoy battlefield or COD (neither of which push the genre from their last installment)

COD set the standard for all shooters this gen. I understand that devs get better over time, but that doesn't mean they can't make classic games for launch. They can and they do.

There's gonna be some serious backlash if we don't see a AAA titles from ps4 before June...

I see dead rising and forza getting at least a 9

KI at least 8.5

Ryse is the one I'm interested in seeing, hopefully above an 8 I'll buy
