I'll be honest, I'm a trapped in the 90's nikka and it's never going to change. Without trying to shyt on you young cats, unless you grew up listening to Hip-Hop in the 90's, you're not going to understand why we praise it so much. Here's a few things I miss about Hip-Hop

-I miss coppin albums at midnight sales. It's crazy to think that back in the day, nikkas copped albums so much, that record stores actually had midnight sales to release albums, and it wasn't just the real big releases either. A few albums I remember getting from midnight sales was The Dynasty, Stankonia, and I Got That Work.

-I miss mixtapes having that grimy sound and feel to them. If you go back and listen to old Whoo Kid and Clue tapes from the 90's, shyt is mad different. The quality wasn't that great, but it fit the timeframe perfectly. Plus, there were so many DJ's back then like DJ Silver Sir-Fa and others. Couldn't go on the internet to get that shyt, so you would cop new mixtapes from places like the flea market to hear the new shyt.

-I miss reading the Source. Other magazines was aight, but nothing was fukking with the Source back in the day. The main reason I liked it was due to the mics given like everyone else. That shyt could literally make or break an album due to what the Source would give it. And they didn't just review mainstream albums, it was albums from every coast.

Add on..

Before the internet mixtapes were how you got exclusives.. I miss that the most...I miss the east coast producers of the 90s to ...RZA especially...I mean he makes beats now but none sound like that old RZA shyt...

But downtown Bridgeport...arcade mall...dj Kingsley had all the official mixtapes ....that was my spot..l

Im a young guy(19), so I obviously prefer a lot of the new aspects of hip hop

But, I do miss those P Cutta Streetwars Mixtapes, G-Unit Radio Mixtapes, and when rappers would dedicate entire mixtapes to dissing just one rapper(Down With The King, You Know What It Is vol 3) :wow:

The mixtape game in general has fell the fukk off, even from the early 2000's. It could have something to do with what happened to Drama and people like Empire snitching and what not, but it's terrible right now. The only mixtapes you can hear are specific artists mixtapes.

It's not even that there is no exclusives for djs now..songs leak everyday..lots of them...by the time they drop the tape all the songs are 3 weeks old lol...so they resort to putting out albums with a bunch of corny collabs that look good on paper but on wax it's always garbage

Yeah, that's true. In ALOT of ways, the internet really fukked up the game and the excitement of Hip-Hop, and probably music in general. A track will drop and it's forgotten in the next few days like Nas' version of Let Nas Down or the Control track (even though this got alot more burn than most). I miss the old days...

I miss when the mystique of collaborations actually meant shyt... people listening to "Renegade" to hear who really had the better verse between Em & Jay was something we took for granted because nobody cares who had the better verse because all these new nikkas have a hundred songs with eachother so there is nothing special about them...

That's real shyt breh..It's the same weak ass collabos that people go and get nowadays, and it's just whoever is 'hot' at the moment.

Group albums!

now its just all these dudes on the same label putting out mixtapes that are for the most part, wack..if you're goin to put out a "crew" mixtape or label mixtape at least fukkin make it captivating and like the artists are workin TOGETHER.. make it so we know you're a group or whatever. have concepts. anyone can make music about cars, chains, and bytches.. leave that to the artists to do solo, not as a group.
