So this popped up in my mailbox and figured it's worth sharing.
Out of all the healthcare ideas out there, Medicare for all seems like the most realistic and best next step to take to fix our healthcare situation. The other half of that is controlling costs but Medicare has the advantage of being able to negotiate prices as it relates to drugs already. But service costs also need to be addressed.
We also already have the infrastructure for it and it's simply a scaling problem that needs to be fixed. This is more "pragmatic" (to use a popular word) to implement this instead of creating a whole new system with single payer. Also it still maintains some private industry roots that many parts of this country view as sacred. It forces private insurers to compete with a more reasonably priced program. Overhead is also less than private industry.
Anyways, I get emails and suggestions to sign petitions of all types and stuff like this but it seems like Bernie Sanders in this case will use the "citizen cosponsors" as leverage to highlight how popular this new proposed legislation is with the public.
This is one of the few times I think it's worth taking the time to add your name to something and feel like it has an actual impact.
Add your name as a Citizen Co-Sponsor of Bernie Sanders' Medicare for All legislation.
