What is Spotify and Beats Music...basically thier STREMING SERVICES..aka DIGITAL BROADCASTERS aka DIGITAL NETWORK RADIO...
for fans of music it works out well......music on demand....from any device mobile (tablet, phone) or stationary (smart tv, computer)
but for artists it opens not only a can of worms but a line of revenue ARTISTS really having benifited from even the bigger artists....Pandora for example pays out horrible royalty rates (11 cent per stream play) ....and that goes to the owners (publisher, label) of the song..so the artist gets a CUT of that measly 11 cent
Pandora has been lobbying for lower royalty rates, claming it takes half of thier revenue to pay these rates...boo hoo...so they have been pushing the HR 6480 bill (internet fairness act) which only will allow them to pay less royalties like thier competitors in sattelite radio SIRUIS which allegedy pays 2 cents per play..
Now you have Spotify which has come under heavy fire from artists such as Thom Yorke of Radiohead attacking it's pathetic royalty system and attempts to provide a service that artists should be able to do themselves..DIGITIAL DISTRUBUTION..so not only Spotify broadcasts the music it distributes it as well..
huh??..conflict of intrest right??
thom yorke speaks:
"We don't need you to do it. No artists needs you to do it. We can build the shyt ourselves, so fukk off. But because they're using old music, because they're using the majors… the majors are all over it because they see a way of re-selling all their old stuff for free, make a fortune, and not die."

BEATS MUSIC is basically offering the same thing...now they haven't started a distribution firm..YET...they are in the streaming/broadcating field...and the fact that it's headed by Jimmy Iovine, Dr. Dre and Trent Reznor should raise an eyebrow..basically you have INTERSCOPE being a broadcaster...smh
just a thought
