Yeah, agreed. They came in at too high a cost to just cut him. I really think their preferred option was that Pickett showed enough to be worth trading away so that they were able to roll the dice on what happens with a vet and two potentially promising rookies that worst case scenario puts them in the mix for a top end pick as they go into the last season with Deshaun Watson on the books. Pickett getting hurt really threw a wrench in the plans.

That said, this plan was always shyt, since the quiet part is that this completely depends on Joe Flacco being the Joe Flacco from the five regular season games he started in 2023, not the Joe Flacco he's been since the wild card game of that same season.

Why would they trade Sanders instead of developing him? a year watching can do wonders for a Rookie QB. Joe Flacco will be out of the league in a year or 2.

I'm gonna assume it'll be like RG3 and Kirk Cousins. They both keep and develop them while Flacco starts the first half of the season. Then whoever they feel is a better QB will get some starts later this year. They can use other QB to trade for draft pick(s) once other teams to show interest. It would be the smart play by the Browns.
