Zanzibar is a pretty cool place to visit. You have to be a little careful out there. They aren’t Sharia or anything, but they can be pretty strict about how you dress or act.

I was very fortunate that my pops had the passport he did because I got yanked into a side room as soon as I picked up my luggage. I was dressed like a typical early-mid 2000’s teenager so they assumed I was a smuggler.

They also will snatch people over modesty violations, like women forgetting to cover up after leaving the beach, or couples publicly displaying affection (kissing and/or hugging).

Other than that it’s like a beautiful dream town. The jungles have cool tours too.

I’m not too sure about the history but I think at some point there was just a split, way back when. Tanzania is super Christian and Zanzibar is largely Muslim. Surprisingly I didn’t see any actual Arabs over there. It was all mainlanders tourists and white/black tourist from Europe and the US

But when I was in Brazil, I was told that the oil money was buying up Salvador as well. I'm not surprised when I hear that the middle east is investing in places that most Americans will never visit
