Six BMW Diesels Heading to America by 2014

At a recent BMW North American meeting, the German automaker announced that six diesel models will be heading to America within the next two years.


The leaked image of a presentation slide reveals that BMW will bring over a 3-Series sedan diesel in the first half of 2013, and will follow it up with a 3-Series diesel Sport Wagon offering in the second half of the year. The third quarter of 2013 will see a 5-Series diesel offering while the X5d SUV model will make an appearance before year’s end.

Kicking off 2014 will be the German automaker’s flagship sedan 7-Series model in diesel form along with the X3d – both will debut in the first half of 2014. While actual powerplant information was not disclosed, it’s believed that the 2.0-liter diesel powerplant will be the one making an appearance, at least in the 3-Series models.

This would confirm our earlier reports that the 2.0-liter, turbocharged diesel engine with 180 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque would be making its way to America.

320d's are nice little cars, I'd buy one in a heartbeat if they come to the US in stick and aren't charging an outrageous premium.

Interesting. I would have thought with their move towards the more powerful N20 I4, that diesels would have been made somewhat obsolete. Guess not.

You should start by selling one of your kidneys on the black market. BMW dealerships are all about serving the rich people with high prices. Economy is improving so they don't need to drop prices, unless they have a one-off car in their lot that just didn't sell. I saw a brownish-orange-copper 3-series once. It looked stupid ugly but they lowered the price on it since it was sitting in their lot for the longest time.

We're trying to get away from gas powered cars, I'd be more inclined to buy an electric/gas BMW than a diesel one.

Almost every car in Europe is a diesel unless you're really well off or have a very small engine. I rarely saw a BMW that wasn't diesel.
When I did it was an M or something that cost an arm and a leg.
