Slick Rick with the Slum lord anthem of the year
This Landlord joint seems to be the most mentioned besides the Nas joint, I'm looking forward to hearing it. Seems to be mixed reviews of the project, biggest critique is the length it seems.

He was just showing them support

For further context:

Club scene before he was married

Club happens to be a lesbian club and Rick is there hanging out with some broads and he’s seeing how one broad was feeling like he was winning over her girlfriend

The LBG and rainbow flag lyrics and shout out to Da Brat, Ellen and Rosie O’Donell was just showing he respects and supports them and women who are gay/lesbian

Indian Girl is a wild track to listen to in 2025, no major label would let you put that out now. Same with the less known sequel Tonto from The Ruler's Back :mjlol:
I feel like The Ruler could get away with it, the joint he did with Morcheeba "Women Lose Weight" takes fat shaming to the supreme extreme on that song, he murders his wife solely because she gained some weight

OK got it, it was just such a random line up off first glance, I also lowkey forgot Brat was an out lesbian now, I guess they're all former/current talk show hosts as well now that I think about it.

Yeah it threw me off guard too but then I remembered this Slick Rick, the story teller lol

I know the Coli gonna have a reaction to these house beats :mjlol:
I guess it's just 2 outta 15 tracks, I'm potentially not mad at it, haven't listened yet, could be some wack ass "Dance Mix 91" type beats. Either way, if hes leaning into UK rave scene sounds I wanna hear him on a jungle track.

I'm even thankful this album doesn't have the "Can't Dance To A Track That Ain't Got No Soul" track with that overused Funkadelic sample.
I actually liked that song and Midas Touch, I thought maybe an album would follow after he released those.

I'm happy to have got a Slick Rick album even tho I guess its hella short, I am hopefull he will bless us one more gen before its all over.

Album dope! That nikka Idris Elba did his shyt on them boards! :mjlol:
I dont think hes making beats is he?? From my understanding hes co exec producing the film aspect of the project, musical production is primarily Rick himself and a few co producers from the credits I've seen.

From what I'm seeing catching up on the thread is the album is dope as the general consensus. I'm glad to hear that one of my goats didn't disappoint. Looking forward to hearing this.

I’m getting conflicting reports. When Documents first dropped all I saw on the internet was that Idris produced it but Slick said in a recent interview that he did most of the production himself. Its also been said Q-Tip co-produced one track

Yeah from my understanding and the credits I have is Tip co produced the last song "Another great adventure, aside from Dirty Harry I never heard of any of the other co-producers - Mandy Aragone, Parker Ighlie, M. Rodriguez, Rory Taylor. Slick Rick is listed as main producer on almost all tracks on the credits I'm seeing. Google does list Idris as co producer and a part time DJ on a few search results, but most places the full tracklist appears doesn't mention him at all. I'm wondering when the visual drops, I cant hold off too much longer to hear the album but I did read the best way to experience it is with the visuals so I been trying to wait til that part of the project drops.

Lyrically Slick Rick sounds great
He hadn't lost a step on all the loosies that came out the past decade and a half. I'm happy to hear he didn't disappoint lyrically on this project
Loved all of it, was like a quintessential Ricky D album, it had flavors from all of his previous albums in here.
Very hopeful reading this, if it stands up do his previous albums I'll be happy.

You can already tell the visual version will enhance the album.

For some reason the clips like this one and a couple early statements of media saying it was a concept album I thought the whole thing was gonna be Bond themed and he was playing the character of agent 008, what I'm reading in this thread makes it sound like a more accurate synopsis is it's a collection of concept songs.
