Brehs, I've lurked this forum for years and haven't seen a reason to make a thread before. Until I gave a deep listen to "I Always Feel Like..." by Tru. For this reason, I want to put my degree and expertise as an author to use and begin a dialogue/thesis on this verse. Please, Coli brothers, I implore you to add on with your own thoughts as necessary. I'm gonna attempt a breakdown of the nonsensical fukkery that is this verse. (Inspired by Charmander's iconic thesis on **** ***'s verse on Ain't I)
I was pullin up out the driveway

I looked and look back it wasn't there
Clearly, Slikk is paranoid. Is some bummy muhfukka following him? He doesn't know. What he DOES know, is... it's suspect as fukk.
But I saw him followin on the highway

His paranoia has clearly proven correct. Someone's been following him. Why does Slikk assume it's a "him" though? Perhaps it's a betrayed baby mama, seeking to collect. The windows are tinted, it's impossible to know.

However, it's when we arrive at this part that it truly throws me off. Perhaps, an attempt at throwing us off his trail? The truth. He doesn't want us to know who is following him. Perhaps an Archangel? His double/triple life has caught him?
Either way, he be seein shyt that ain't there... It ain't there... but he be seein shyt? What is he seeing? Has Slikk opened up his third-eye allowing him to gaze into the realm of the ethereal? Did Slikk the Shocker, in 1997, transcend humanity, gazing into the 5th Dimension. The ability to astral project, to be in places without being seen there... to see a place without being there?

However, as if to throw us off his trail. To bewilder those who may be on his tail, Slikk proceeds to obfuscate his prior statement. Perhaps, he told us too much in that last bar? Maybe, it's one of those things, akin to the Mythos of Cthulhu, that man just isn't meant to know? For that reason, he states that it's because of the dope game that he feels this way. Resigning to the confessions of a drug addict... Even though, clearly, and by accident, he let slip to the everyday peons, he's something more.

Finally... After dismissing his ramblings, he stares at himself in a mirror. Questioning his own existence, the true consideration of his own lot within the circle of life. Is he, himself, real? Or is there something more to his powers? To his capability? Has he reached the level of self-actualization that he had sought?
After gazing in the mirror... He turned around... Only to see himself, staring at himself, even though he was FACING HIMSELF PRIOR in the mirror. How? How can one be both, in front, and behind themself... while also being themself... simultaneously?
This leads us back to my multi-dimensional theory, perhaps the Shocker exists on multiple different planes, each one detached from the other... Yet, somehow connected. Either way, he's now... 'Noid. But, he specifically species that he's not paranoid.
This led me to do some research on words that end in the suffix -noid. A variety of words... But only one truly stuck out to me... Cretinoid.
The state of being a fool. But... Why? What would've led him to feel as if he were a Cretinoid through this verse?
Simple... He let it slip that he's of a different plane.
He hoped that it would just slip by, especially cuz Mia X killed her verse after... but we coil wolves know far better.
One of the GOAT metaphysical verses... One that could've easily slipped through our grasp. Don't sleep on Slikk... Or, perhaps, do. That's what he wants.
