This thread reminded me of some small ass town that I traveled to to get to a wedding in Minnesota this past summer. The population was 113. Tried Googling to find the city name, but that will be impossible.

That's a big part of it. The people in the offices I worked in always talked about pipe dreams of dropping everything and moving to real civilization but they had no advanced education and no familial or professional contacts outside the town so they had noplace to start.
Some of these small towns weren't really terribly far from bigger cities and the people had literally never left the town in their entire life, even for a few days.
