It appears S.N.L. has been staffing up ahead of its Season 44 premiere next weekend. One month after news broke that Luke Null would not return as a featured player this fall, the venerated sketch show announced a new cast member: Ego Nwodim. She’ll make her S.N.L. debut in the season opener, alongside four new writers: Alan Linic, Alison Gates,b Bowen Yang, and Eli Mandel.
Nwodim—whose first name, for the record, is pronounced “Eggo”—already has a pretty impressive résumé. Two years ago, Montreal’s Just for Laughs comedy festival named her one of its New Faces of Comedy. She’s also logged some stellarappearances on Comedy Bang! Bang!, and last year, she performed her one-woman show, Great Black Women . . . and Then There’s Me to a sold-out audience at the UCB Theatre. As a comedian, Nwodim is known especially for her character work—which should come in handy at her new job.
The Season 44 premiere of S.N.L. airs on NBC September 29.
