I've always felt SNL in the 90's was overrated

90s SNL was very overrated and easily surpassed by that Tina Fey, Kattan, Fallon and Ferrell crew (who were strong as a unit, not separate).

After that renaissance cast left in the early 90s (Carvey, Lovitz, Myers, Miller, Hooks, etc) the show fell off hard and was almost cancelled.

Hader was the last great SNL cast member and is probably in the top 15 of all time.
