it's not a big deal if a lot of people die slow vs a little bit of people dying fast? Especially when many of the folks in the latter are dying fast because if the ailments caused by obesity and heart disease?!?

Those ARE the real numbers according to the death certificates. There's 2 parts on a DC: Immediate cause and contributing conditions. COVID can be listed as either. If COVID caused your pneumonia to get worse and kill you, you are listed as a pneumonia death with COVID-19 as a contributor. If COVID caused the pneumonia that killed you, you are a COVID death.
If you want to verify the numbers, yourself, contact each State's Office of Vital Statistics and order copies of the death certs.
