If you don't understand the basic concept of how taxes work, you're gonna get screwed.

You have to check your withholdings every paycheck, to make sure your employer isn't taking out too little.
It's not up the the employer, it's up to the individual.

I've done 11 returns so far where people who normally get a nice return, ended up owing even though their salary didn't change.

And this by the way doesn't include credits that were eliminated for middle class earners.
