Sometimes you gotta take the good w/ the bad. The corny scenes have me comic relief for a dark tone film

I mean, the movie wasn't on the level of Boyz N The Hood or Menace II Society, but the way Omar Epps put the beats on that white dude in the stairwell after Deja got killed....:ohlawd:

And that's another thing. Remy turned into a White Supremacist because Ice Cube didn't turn his radio down? I was in College for three years I had shytty room mates too, but they ain't make me that angry. Hell eventually I just changed rooms. This dude started sniping people. and all of this happened in less than a year.

I think it was a combination of that and the fact that he had no friends there. Dude was socially inept and couldn't make friends naturally, so the lead Nazi took advantage of that.

No one ever said Higher Learning was great tho... it was panned by critics when it came out.

IMO The movie aged better over time considering alot of what is covered in the film is happening in real time today. The movie isn't supposed to be an accurate depiction of colllege. It is a college campus being used as a metaphor for America.

-Remy didn't join the neo nazi's because of Cube playing his music... he was an outcast or "lone wolf" who didn't fit in with any of the groups on campus. It's made pretty clear at numerous points that he is socially awkward and has trouble engaging with people.

-The police/school security trying to be overtly "reasonable" with the sniper/mass shooter is very similar to the cops handling of mass shooters like Dylan Roof

Remy said his dad was a survivalist. A lot of those dudes are white supremacists, he’d never been out of Idaho. Someone from a small town (which he was likely from) would find California to be a complete culture shock. He was awkward as hell and a loner, perfect material for those skinheads to indoctrinate by befriending him.

Funny you mention the white chick because she turned out to be another one of those D-List actors that supports Trump. She probably regrets being in that movie.

The portrayal of the campus security was spot on. They apprehended Malik and thought he was a suspect when Remy pulled the gun on him in the dorm room. Then beat the shyt out of Malik while, Remy was the suspected shooter and he was whuppin his ass. Dude had just killed people, pointed a gun at them and they still coddled him.

Growing up, I thought that Jennifer Connelly was one of the most white women I had ever seen in my life. Not saying much, because she is only 1 of maybe 5 white women who I legit think are attractive (I hate white women as a rule of thumb).

so because of Jen alone, it's a good movie. Story was kinda shaky on some parts, I will admit. But it's still a blassic.

It is a great sentimental film, good imagery and paints a picture of what college in the 90s was before they killed affirmative action. Aside from the plot.

Films like that should be in the library of Congress or some shyt. There really isn’t anything like it depicting that time in a serious manner.
